How to Make Your Hair More Healthy

Hey everyone,
I got a request the other day to write a post on how to keep you hair healthy and happy. Let's face it, who doesn't want hair that is worthy of being in a L'Oreal ad (I do!), so here are some small changes you can make to your hair care routine, in order to help make - and keep -  you hair soft and silky:

1 - How often should you wash your hair?
Remember; this mostly depends on your schedule, and the type of hair that you have. Try to wash it between 2 and 4 times per week, and don't over wash it (by that I mean shampooing it 4 times). Also remember that the natural oils in your hair are there for a reason - to protect it. Ideally you should be only washing it 2 or 3 times, and 4 if it gets greasy easily. NEVER wash your hair every day, and avoid using really hot water when washing your hair.

2 - Avoid curling/straightening it too often
This sounds obvious, but is so easy to forget about. I know the amount of times that I have 'experimented' with my curlers, when I'm not going out, or even seeing anyone that day. This also includes blow-drying your hair, where it is best to leave it until at least half dry, before getting out your hair dryer. Always use your heat tools on the lowest setting possible, and remember to use heat protectant. I would personally recommend the Tresseme heat protectant spray. To add waves to your hair without heating it, wash it in the evening, and then braid it before you go to bed. The tighter you do the braids, the more frizzy your hair will be when you take it out in the morning.

3 - Use a hair mask
Most of you have heard me rave about Coconut oil before, which is also really good for your hair. When you go in the shower or bath, put around two teaspoons in a jar, with the lid on, and run it under the hot water until it melts. Then, after shampooing your hair, gently massage the oil into you hair. Leave it to sit for around 5 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly (and I mean thoroughly - otherwise it makes your hair damp-looking until you next wash it).

4 - Brushing/Combing
Brush you hair twice a day, for maximum glossy-ness, and always comb it after washing, rather than using a brush. Try to brush your hair from the bottom to the top, and be as gentle as you can - your hair is not a horse's tail, so don't treat it like one. Also, use different brushes for different styles, and keep all your brushes clean, to make them - and your hair - last longer.

5 - Don't Dye your hair
Your hair's colour is fine the way it is, but if you want to change your hair colour slightly, try to use natural methods.
For example; to lighten your hair, mix one part lemon juice with one part water (to reduce the acidity), and use a spray bottle to apply it to your hair. To increase the results you can leave it on for longer, or take a good book outside, and sit in the sun.
To add red tones to your hair, try henna. Although I haven't ever henna'd my hair myself, I have done some research, and would recommend the Lush Henna, which comes in four tones, Rouge, Brun, Marron, and Noir.

... And if all else fails, don't forget, it's just hair! and hair grows back.
Don't forget to leave me any requests in the comments below,

Autumn/Winter Skincare Routine

Hey Guys,
As the weather is slowly getting colder, I often find that my skin looks and feels very dry. Because of this, I recently started a new (and improved for the winter) skincare routine which I thought I'd share with you all.

The first product that I used, and have been using for a long time, is the Simple Skincare Face Wash. I have been using this for a long time and it is AMAZING. I find that it makes my face feel really soft and fresh. It is also not too expensive and works really effectively in cleaning my skin, and getting rid of the dirt that just using water can't.

The next thing that I use everyday is my Tea-tree Night Treatment Gel from Boots. I started using this a few months ago, and have seen me skin get so much better after just a few days of using it. I have found that it doesn't just prevent spots, it also helps to get rid of any that do 'spring up'. It also isn't too expensive, if you are don't want to spend very much.

The moisturiser that I use at the moment is the Neutrogena visibly clear, pink grapefruit, oil-free, moisturiser. This is probably the most expensive part of my daily routine, as it is around £5 per bottle. However, a little goes a very long way, and this has kept me going for a lot longer than I thought it would. It also last all day, as sometimes I find that sometimes you begin to lose the effects of moisturisers around mid-afternoon, so it is definitely worth the price.

And finally, something that I use two or three times per week is my exfoliator. I am currently using the No7 Radiance Revealed Exfoliator, which really helps my skin to look and feel brighter. This is another product that has lasted me a lot longer than I thought it would. It is quite expensive - at £8.50 per bottle - so another one that I would suggest is the Boots branded one.

Thanks for reading guys, and let me know what changes you have made to looking after your skin now that it is getting colder Also, if you have anything that you want me to review, you can leave that below as well.

Review: Accessorize 'Metallic Eyeshadow'

Hey there everybody!
As promised I have a review for you all. If you haven't seen my last review, on the 'Boho Gem Palette' you should go and check that out. Also, guys, sorry about the lighting - I took the pictures mid-afternoon, and it was already getting dark! Don't forget to let me know in the comments if you want me to review anything for you...

Colours: I love the colours of these shadows. They are just the right shiny-ness to not be sparkly, but still make your eyes really stand out. I would like to have a bigger range to choose from, as Accessorize are only currently doing three colours, meaning that I have to do the crease using the eye shadow palette, which is a different consistency. However the colours that they are doing currently are really pretty.

Application: This is the on area where these pretty shadows are let down. I have found that they doing pick up very easily at all and feel They blend together easily and can be made slightly brighter by layering them, but I find that if you want any substantial colour you have to do about three coats.

Quality: I think that these are decent quality, as with a bit of layering they aren't too thin. They also come off easily, and I have ended up with them on my fingers if I touch my eye whilst wearing them. Despite this that do come off easily with makeup remover and don't dry out while you are wearing them.

Retail Price: £5.00
I would say that these shadows are a bit over priced as I have found others which feel much better quality for almost the same amount.

Review: Accessorize 'Boho Gem Palette'

If you have read my previous post on My Handbag Essentials, you will know that I recently (ish)bought a new purse in Accessorize - which I adore :)
While I was in there I also noticed they had new eyeshadow palettes. They were so pretty, I knew I had to get one, and I did.

Colours: I love the set of colours in this palette, and I think that they would be perfect for Summer, especially if you are going away, this would be the perfect one to take with you. The only thing I have a problem with, is that the description (on the back) says that it has a range of matte and shimmery colours, but from what I can see, only around 1/3 of them are matte. This is not a problem for me, as I love shimmery eyeshadows, but for anyone who doesn't, might want to find a different palette.

Application: I have found that these eye shadows are best applied with a sponge ended applicator, rather than a regular eye brush - I'm not sure why as I don't usually like them, but they seem to pick up the colours better. They are easily blended together and the colours layered easily to create a brighter tone.

Quality: I think that the quality of this palette is very good as the shadows stay on well (don't rub the shimmery ones unless you want glitter all over your hands) but don't take a ton of scrubbing with makeup remover to get them off. The colours are well pigmented and very bright.

Retail Price: £12.00
I think this is a fair price for the colours you get and the quality of the shadows, so would definitely recommend this palette if you want to get your moneys worth.
